Q: What are the enrollment deadlines for 2017 coverage?
A: According to healthcare.gov the following apply:
November 1, 2016: First day to enroll, re-enroll, or change a 2017 insurance plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Coverage can start as soon as January 1, 2017.
December 15, 2016: Last day to enroll in or change plans for coverage to start January 1, 2017.
January 1, 2017: 2017 coverage starts for those who enroll or change plans by December 15.
January 31, 2017: Last day to enroll in or change a 2017 health plan. After this date, you can enroll or change plans only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
Q: If I don’t have health insurance, how much is the fine?
A: The fee is calculated in 2 different ways – as a percentage of your household income, and per person. You’ll pay whichever amount is higher.
- 2.5% of household income per person OR $695 per adult
- $347.50 per child under 18
- Maximum of $2,085
Q: Do I qualify for a government subsidy?
A: When you apply for coverage with us, you’ll find out if you qualify for a “premium tax credit” that lowers your premium. A premium is the monthly amount you pay to your insurance provider. Your premium tax credit amount depends on your estimated household income for 2017.
Q: What if I already enrolled for coverage, but want to change my plan?
A: You can change your plan any time between November 1st and January 31st. See the important dates listed above for more info.
