Required Auto Insurance in Wyoming

In Wyoming, you must have Liability Insurance according to state law. This type of coverage will help cover costs of injuries and property damage you may cause to someone else in a car accident that is your fault. However, this type of coverage will not cover any of your own injuries or damages in this situation.

State Minimum Liability Coverage in Wyoming

  • PD or Property Damage: $20,000 for property damage.

Optional Coverage in Wyoming

While you’re not required by law to carry the following types of coverage, you may first want to assess what the costs would be out-of-pocket without any additional coverage at all. You may find that paying a few more dollars a month makes more sense for you. Or, you may feel that you’re financially stable enough to pay for an expensive accident if it occurs.

Optional coverage in Wyoming often includes:

  • Collision Coverage*: This coverage helps pay for damages in the event of an accident involving other vehicles. Though the cost to fix vehicle damage varies greatly following an accident, you can pretty much count on most car repairs to be fairly costly. With national average repair costs of nearly $3,000, you risk paying those repair costs out of your own pocket if you do not have Collision coverage.
  • Comprehensive Coverage*: If there are damages to your car caused by something other than a car collision, Comprehensive coverage will help cover these types of incidents. This can include compensation for damage done to car by natural disasters, hail, tornadoes, vandalism and more.
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage: This type of coverage helps pay for injuries and damages resulting from an auto accident in which the other driver was at fault and does not have enough Auto Insurance or any at all. Without this coverage, you would be responsible for paying for your own injuries and damages, even if the accident was not your fault.
  • Medical Payments: This will help you pay for your medical or funeral costs if you or your passengers were injured or killed in an accident. This coverage applies even if you were at fault.
  • Rental: This coverage pays for your rental car expenses when your car is being repaired from an accident, up to policy limits. This addition to your Auto Insurance policy could mean the difference between having a working vehicle within a few days after an accident or not having one for a few weeks or more after an accident.
  • Towing: This coverage reimburses you for towing costs that come from your car breaking down, up to your policy limit.

*Although Collision coverage and Comprehensive coverage are not required by law, they may be required in your car loan or lease contract with the lender.

While Wyoming law does not require any of these optional coverages, it may be in your best interest to pay a few extra dollars a month to make sure you’re financially protected in all possible auto-related situations. If you have questions about these coverages or how to add them to your Auto Insurance policy, contact a licensed AIS agent today.
